This is Tommy (or Dr. Tom), and his daughter Mia. I'm sure you have heard me talk about Dr. Tom. He is my dentist. My fabulous, caring, exceptional dentist. If you know me, you know the issues I have with my mouth, and how wonderful Dr. Tom has been in trying to resolve those issues with me. He is someone important to me. A necessary part of my life.
He is also important to Drew. Tommy has been Drew's college roommate, big, big brother in Sigma Chi, climbing buddy and all around long time good friend. We love this guy and we love his family. A LOT!
Meet Miabella. She is Tommy's 12 year old daughter. She excels in martial arts, plays the trombone, loves her little brother Eli and is kind to everyone. Mia was a very healthy girl, until one week ago. She was rushed to Primary Children's Hospital with what Tom and Heidi thought was dehydration. They thought after a few IV's she would be hydrated and off they would go. That has not been so. A virus had attacked Mia's heart. We learned on Thursday evening that Mia needs a heart transplant. This is so scary, and my heart is hurting for them. Because I am such a worrier by nature, at the end of everyday I say a little prayer of gratitude that my kids are healthy and safely tucked into their beds. We made it through another day and I am so thankful. Even though I try my hardest not to take Carter and Macy for granted, I find myself loving them even more. Why is it that something scary likes this makes us appreciate things more when we should already be appreciating them everyday?
I am sharing this story with you in hopes that you will say a prayer for Mia, that she will receive the heart that she so needs, and that she will be healthy again. And I hope that you will say a prayer for Dr. Tom, and Heidi and Eli, that they can remain strong and positive in these trying days. They need to be surrounded by all the positive energy and love that they can be right now.
Thank you!
