A trek up the canyon...

So yesterday we packed up our picnic basket and headed up Little Cottonwood Canyon for a day of hiking, exploring, eating & a walk down memory lane. We saw waterfalls, beautiful wildflowers & the "Old Climbing Wall" on the side of the Cliff Lodge. I hadn't been up that canyon for years - seeing as though I live in PC I tend to stay on that side of the Wasatch. But I had fun telling Carter & Macy about the good old days skiing and hanging out with my friends and family at Snowbird and Alta. We had a really great day and will look forward to doing it again!

So, you can't really call us Lance....

After waking up late today, and totally bummed out because I'd missed my opportunity to get my run in (and further damage my knee... hehehehe), I decided I would just get myself dressed and head to the office. It was then that Drew walked in and asked me what I was doing... "You scheduled us out of the office today, remember?" (Not just because today is "Pioneer Day" here, but because we needed a break, or more like HE needed a break...) Some great office manager I am, I can't even get the correct vacation dates scheduled on the calendar... Anyway, I seized the opportunity, grabbed Macy, and we headed off on our bikes for a ride. Got to get that work out in somehow, right? I can't bear to live with the guilt all day if I don't. Macy was a great sport seeing as though I was literally dragging her up a mountain! After many water breaks & snaking our way up the road, we made it to the top. And there was much rejoicing... and no knee pain whatsoever! We then proceeded to ride home where we baked bread with the sister-wives...Macy isn't really bummed in this picture that I dragged her out of the house and made her come with me, she's just eating a granola bar...
Water break #1....
A look at the neighborhood... I love it here!
Water break #2 & another view of the neighborhood...
A garden we passed along the way...
Water break #3... or 17, I've lost count by now...
View from the top...
We made it! Now for a well earned down-hill ride!!!!

Celebrating the Birthday!

We had an awesome day celebrating Carter's birthday, and don't think that we could have crammed one more activity in it! A big thanks to all friends and family for their birthday wishes & gifts, they made Carter's day!The 14 year old!
Opening of the presents!

Reading all the cards!
Here's Macy checking out Captain K'nuckles, Carter's new fish....
Then it was time for a trip to the NAC's open house....
After the open house it was off to see the new Harry Potter movie, which we all loved! We cried and cried a lot at the end...
Then it was time for dinner at Ahh Sushi. If you happen to go, sit at the bar and ask for Arnold & Izzy - they hook you up with all the free & tasty stuff!
Then it was home to blow out candles... we had such a fun day!

Open House at the NAC!

Luckily for us, the National Ability Center had an open house yesterday, and as part of Carter's birthday celebration she wanted to go and show us just what the NAC is all about. It is such a cool place, and every time I'm there, I just feel so appreciative of its existence - as does Carter! There are so many fun activities to participate in, I can see how you would walk away from the center feeling as though you have so many more abilities than disabilities. Drew had never been there before, and was equally impressed! We had such fun taking Carter's guided tour, and it made me that much prouder of her and her love of volunteering there! On our way....
Running into Sarah, one of Carter's new friends from a discovery camp she volunteered at...
Checking out the indoor horse arena... Carter has such a cute smile, but then you're eyes are drawn over to Macy (enough said?)....
Some simple, very cool art work painted on a left-over door...
Feeling some love from one of the camp's regulars!
